SPEND MORE TIME PUTTING ON CUTE THAN PUTTING ON CHRIST?

“Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? (Matthew 6:25 NKJV)

What’s the morning routine?  Look familiar? Get up. Have a cup of coffee. Read or watch the news.  Simultaneously, check social media.  Shower and shave.  Brush the teeth and do the hair. Slap on make-up. Choose the perfect garb, including “outers, unders,” shoes and accessories. Finally, Get dressed. Grab breakfast. Walk the dog.  Go to work in or out of the house.   Where is the time for sitting at the feet of Jesus?  And, if we go out or to a special event, more attention is paid to “putting on cute!”

Jesus said in Matthew 6:25: “Do not worry….”  In other words, Don’t give it a second thought.  We are not to waste time thinking nor worrying about what we are going to eat, drink, or put on.  Ever had this conversation?

“What are you going to wear? “Should I wear this one or that one…or maybe, what do think about this other one? Which shoes goes best?”

Before you put on or give thought to putting on any clothes, what does the Bible say we are to “put on?”

  1. PUT ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and make no provision for the flesh, to [fulfill its] lusts. (Romans 13:14 NKJV)
  2. PUT ON THE ARMOR OF LIGHT. (Romans 13:12 NKJV)
  3. PUT ON THE NEW MAN, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. (Ephesians 4:24 KJV)
  4. PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11NKJV, See Ephesians 6:10-20 to see all the armor which includes putting on your prayer.)
  5. PUT ON TENDER MERCIES, KINDNESS, HUMILITY, MEEKNESS, LONGSUFFERING;(Colossians 3:12 NKJV)
  6. But above all these things PUT ON LOVE, which is the bond of perfection. (Colossians 3:14 NKJV)

Once, the Holy Spirit pricked my spirit about attending a book launch in Franklin, TN.  Kris encouraged me to go. I responded. “I’ll pray about it. I don’t want to go by myself.” I never mind going anywhere alone so that was odd for me to say. I reviewed my short roll of friends that I could ask to join me.  Loud and clear in my spirit, I heard my Best Friend: “I will go with you! Let’s make it a date. You need to go shopping for an outfit for Jonathan and Kats’ s wedding. Let’s make it a date! You and I!” —God!  I prayed before heading to Nashville. “Lord, you are in charge. Tell me where to go.”  I was nudged towards Nordstrom Rack. I asked for the Lords help before entering.  As I browsed, Holy Spirit whispered for me to look carefully.  I cautiously picked up a few things and then came across a couple of jumpsuits.  I thought, “Me in a jumpsuit? No way!” I remembered the advice of my Date, “Look carefully.”  When I went into the dressing room, I tried on the jumpsuit first to eliminate it.  I liked it!  It was so comfortable and looked good. It was so affordable. I was so excited.  I tried on everything else. The jumpsuit was the answer.  I face timed my sister in law for her opinion and she agreed.  First, store and first try on…GLORY TO GOD!   The rest of the day we had a light lunch and strolled around the quaint shops of Franklin. I put him on first that day and he took care of the rest.

I enCOURAGE to “put on the LORD JESUS” and Love, first !  You will have the most amazing days in Him.
