The Christmas Story

The 2016 Version of Luke 2 by Tammy Phillips
December 25, 2020

Caesar Augustus, the first Emperor of the Roman Empire reigned during a really dark time in Israel. The darkness was a lot like our present day.  Caesar was a dude who thought he knew it all.  He sent out an Executive Order; big brother wanted to know who and where you were!  He wanted money!  And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. Everybody went to be taxed, everyone into his own city.

Joe went up to Judea, not to New York City, but to David’s City, Bethlehem… from Galilee from his hometown, Nazareth.  He was a descendant of David, you know.  He had to drag Mary along with him. She was about to pop because she was so Prego.  It wasn’t long after they arrived that she told Joe: “IT’S TIME!” It was probably the 80-100-mile hike, the 4-7 day walk, that put her into labor.  You know that girl was worn out. Joe forgot to make reservations at the Holiday Inn-Bethlehem. Everything was sold out.  There was a big crowd in Bethlehem to be taxed.  You know how crazy the post office is on tax-day. Bethlehem was buzzing just like that.  No Vacancy signs were everywhere.

Mary had sweet baby Jesus in the only place they could find…A BARN in the ‘hood. (Light brought into darkness. God Almighty laid aside His Glory and appeared on the scene as a baby.) She had her first son, her first child, away from home. She probably left his onesies in Nazareth, so she wrapped him up like a peanut with what she had. She swaddled him and laid him in a manger hewn out of rock. You know, the things that farm animals ate out of. He came into the earth just like he left the earth, all wrapped up and lying on a stone.

Out in the county there were some farmers minding their business.  They were sleeping out in the field taking care of their animals, so no harm would come to them.  Out of the darkness, “kabam-shazam,” out of nowhere, a HUGE angel appeared.  He had to be at least 20 feet tall. He showed up from nowhere.  The mega angel lit up that whole field like sunrise over the ocean. It nearly scared the farmers to death.  They were shaking in their boots. Hopefully, a MAGA angel will show up in 2020. The angel roared, “DON’T BE AFRAID!”  Look!  Listen! I am bringing you GOOD NEWS!!!  You have hit the lottery.  It is going to make you so HAPPY.  It’s good news for everybody. Today.  T-O-D-A-Y!  In Bethlehem…Are you ready for it?  Our Savior has been born, the Savior of the World.  He is here!  Christ the Lord is here!  Our Savior, our deliverer…from Greek word “sozo” which means to save, keep safe, and sound, to rescue from danger, to save from perishing from disease, to make well, heal, restorer, doctor/healer when you need him, restorer to health from the oppressor (you know the one who tries to harm and hurt you, the one who tried to keep you beat down). Our Savior is born!

Feel like you’re missing something?  The Savior will complete you.
Anxious?  He says don’t worry!
Sick?  God has no big problems!
Need something?  He is more than enough!
Need forgiveness?  Ask.
Need help?  He is the Comforter.
Lonely? He will never leave you nor forsake you?
Need a constant in your life? He will never change. He always has been, always is and always will be.
Want to do well? He has the keys to the kingdom.

His name is I AM, I WAS, I always will be. HIS NAME IS CHRIST, the anointed. He is smeared all over, bathed-in, like suntan oil at the beach…it is all over Him to be who He was and is supposed to be. He is furnished with all necessary powers to perform his position with duties as assigned by God.

The LORD, the man of the hour, has power for decision making.  He gets things done.  He is Supreme.  He has it all under control.  He is our Savior for such a time as this!  He is our SOZO now.  Life is now.  He is not a fire policy. He is the Son of God and He is here.

A child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (the Chief of Completeness) – Isaiah 9:6

Get it? I AM is here!

This is the sign. You can find the Savior of the World wrapped in swaddling clothes and He is lying in a M A N G E R. (A manger? The king is in a manger?) Don’t miss the sign boys.

The heavens could not stand it anymore- the good news!

Bam!  The angel’s back-up singers, the Heavenly Host (Heard of them? They were a really popular group with God).  I mean I am talking a platoon, a troop of host, showed up and put on a show.  They were praising God and rocking the stage saying:
“Glory to God in the highest.  Peace on Earth.  Good will to men!” You could hear them all the way in Nazareth.  After the field concert (And Luke Bryan thought this was an original idea?), the Angel of the Lord & the Heavenly Host – poof- they jetted back to heaven in an instant.

The Sheps chatted and thought it might be a good idea to let the flock hang out and for them to head on to Bethlehem. They wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I mean the Lord had dropped a concert in the middle of the field in the middle of the night to let them know the good news.  Talk about virtual reality.  The Sheps sped to Bethlehem.

Lo and behold!  Surprise!  Surprise!  Surprise! C an you believe it?  They found Mare, Joe and sweet lil’ baby Jesus lying in the manger.  After they saw BABY JESUS, they went and told everybody about it!  Anyone that would listen, heard the story. They didn’t go to bed for days.  Everybody they told wandered in AMAZEMENT.  You can see them just shaking their heads.

Mary was just blown away.  She kept quiet and to herself.  She thought…I birthed the King?  He is lying in a manger?  The Savior of the world?  After the long journey, the labor, it was too much.  She just kept all this to herself and let her thoughts just circle in her tiny little brain.  It was just too much to process.

The Sheps!  They just kept on partying.  Glorifying, praising, and singing to the top of their lungs to God.  What a story, a Glory Story of the Savior of the World!

Merry Christmas!

CROWNED WITH HIS GLORY

Christmas Eve 2019, Clarksville, TN

by Tammy Phillips
December 24, 2020

For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned (encompassed) him with glory and honor. (Pslam 8:5)

Not only has God given us His glory, but He also crowned us with His glory or at least he did in the beginning.  The glory of God was Adam’s clothing.  Adam’s whole being was glorious and radiated.  Sadly, “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

Adam chose to take off God’s glory and put on Satan’s lying rags.

BUT GOD!!!  He had a different plan. He had a better plan.   God himself stepped out of heaven, removed His Glory coat and put-on man.  Jesus came as a baby, but as a man at the cross, he bought back our right to don the glory.  I discovered that we got new coats for Christmas, too.  It’s been ours since salvation.  Now, when we choose Jesus as our Savior and Lord, God only sees us through the lens of Jesus in all His glory.

Why did he give us His glory? John 17:23 tells us…”so that we may be perfect, complete, I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.”  We become like our father.  People call it a “spitting image.” We reflect the very image of our Father and His glory.

I enCOURAGE you to wear your crown, coat and the very image of your Daddy to draw others to Him for His glory!

GLORY DAY

The heavens declare His glory from our home in Clarksville, TN, December 23, 2016

December 23, 2020

On December 23, 2016, I sat down at the feet of Jesus to study His word.  I chose to be Mary instead of Martha on this day (Luke 10:38-42).  I had several devotions that I usually read.  The devotions gave me a focus for the day or led me in a direction of study. The Holy Spirit brought me to:

“I have given to them the glory and honor which You have given Me, that they may be one [even] as We are one: I in them and You in Me, in order that they may become one and perfectly united, that the world may know and [definitely] recognize that You sent Me and that You have loved them [even] as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also whom You have entrusted to Me [as Your gift to Me] may be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory, which You have given Me [Your love gift to Me]; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17:22-24 AMPC)

I wrote in my journal:   WOW!!! Merry Christmas to me! God has given me His Glory!

I continued to study glory that early December morning.  At 6:47 AM,  I raised my head just to meditate on these verses and everything that the Holy Spirit was sharing with me about His glory.  I caught the faintest pink reflection in the glass of my china cabinet.  I looked out my lunette window to see what looked like a cloudy day, but in fact, I glimpsed the faintest smear of vibrant, fiery pink painted in the eastern sky.  I could not really see the full sky, so I ran outside to capture this moment in a photo.  This was the Masterpiece that God handed me. He spoke to my heart  in that moment, “This is just a minuscule example of my glory, my presence.”

December 23rd will forever be remembered as my glory day.  It was and is one of my favorite days of the year.  Jesus is the greatest gift ever, but that day I learned that as children of God we received his glory for no other reason than His love for us.

I enCOURAGE you to bask in His glory and the love of our Father God.  In return throw all the love you have right back at him and forever glorify him.

DID YOU SEE “THE STAR”?

Jupiter and Saturn Align by Greg Hogan Photography , 12/21/2020

by Tammy Phillips
December 22, 2020

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. (Matthew 2:10 KJV)

Last night, Saturn and Jupiter aligned.  I have heard that the last time this happened was 800 years ago.  There was a lot of hype about it being the “Christmas Star or the Star of Bethlehem.”   I wanted to see this majestic phenomenon.  Kris and I searched out a field so we could clearly and easily see the south west horizon.  We found the “star.”  My friend, Kristi drove up to the mountains in east Tennessee to find an unobstructed view of the star’s conjunction.  She was an hour ahead of us.  When we located what we thought was the “star,” I texted her and questioned its size and brightness.  She answered that it was pretty, but not too big or too bright.  She confirmed that we were indeed looking at the correct “star.”

To be honest, I was a little disappointed at first.  I was expecting to see a big search light size “star” appear before our eyes.

Another friend, Sparkle, texted, “Are you looking forward to seeing the Christmas Star tonight?”

I responded, “I was…it was not as I expected. How about you?”  She sent me a picture of a dot in the sky with the reply, “I am not sure if this was it.  It wasn’t what I expected either.”

It only took five minutes for me to get on the web and find what professional photographers captured!    My perspective immediately changed.  Even though most of us could not “see” its splendor nor capture with our eyes what we expected, it does not diminish the fact that the occurrence was spectacular.   It was a once in a lifetime or once every 800 years happening that we were alive to see.  I am sure astronomers were freaking out.

It is all about perspective.   Two thousand years ago, when the wise men, saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding joy!  This should have been my immediate response; however, it took me a little while to get there last night.  I should have appreciated the “star,” immediately , instead of looking for the next big thing.

Israel looked for the King of Kings many, many years before he appeared as a baby, wrapped in swaddling clothes, laying in a manger.  How many people have missed the King because he did not come as they expected in all His majesty?

Every day, every breath, we should be living amazed by God. Look at creation! It declares His glory.  Every sun that rises and sets illustrates His perfect timing.  I am still amazed at how fast the roots of a poinsettia drank up the water I gave it from a plate.  It did not leave one drop behind.  My friend, that is God’s perfect creation.

I enCOURAGE you to stop and be in wonder at everything God has blessed us with…Jesus, your spouse, family, children, friends, sunrises and sunsets; oceans and mountains; the rain and snow; trees and flowers; the moon and the stars!   Live amazed by God!

YOU ARE CHOSEN, CALLED OUT, AND PICKED OUT TO SHOW OUT

We can never show out more than our Heavenly Father…Sunrise December 19, 2020

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:” (1 Peter 2:9 KJV)

Let’s look at what the Greek definitions of some of the words in 1 Peter 2:9 mean in order to get the full meaning on the scripture.

Chosen: (eklektos) elected; picked out; favored

Generation: (genie) kin; kinfolk; stock; from (ginomai) to become

Royal: in the king’s court; regal

Peculiar: (peripoiēsis) purchased, preserved, saved possession

Shew: (exaggellō) to tell out or forth; to declare abroad; divulge; publish; to make known by praising or proclaiming, to celebrate.  Derived from (ex) out or from and (aggelos)a messenger, envoy, one who is sent, an angel, a messenger from God.

Praises: (arete) moral excellence; moral goodness; virtue; manliness

Called: (kaleo) called by name

Marvelous: (thaumazō) wonderful; worthy of pious admiration; admirable; excellent; passing human comprehension; causing amazement; extraordinary

Tammy’s version of 1 Peter 2:9 might read like this:

Moreover!   We are picked out and favored kinfolk to become, royal and regal, in the king’s court, His peculiar, purchased possessions.  Our job? Be a messenger of God, sent by God, picked out by God, favored by God to publish and proclaim.  We are picked out to shew out!   What?  Who?  God in all His manliness, His virtue, His excellence and goodness!  We are called to shew off the One who has called us out…by name out of darkness into His marvelous, amazing, passing human comprehension,  light! And that… is who He is, what He has done and who He has called us to be.

I enCOURAGE you, “Called Out,” to show out and shout out for Jesus! Reflect his glorious light!

HALLELUJAH FROM THE EAST TO THE WEST

by Tammy Phillips
December 2o, 2019

From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name [is] to be praised.  The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.  Psalms 113:3-4 NKJ

From our first rise and toes touch the floor, until we hop back in our place of rest, the Lords name is to be praised!

From as far as the east is to the west, the Lords name is to be praised. As far as I can see, that is an eternal view.

I really do not know if eternity is long enough to praise God for who He is and what he has done.

I enCOURAGE you to out praise the sun at its rise and at its set. Glory in our God. Every morning and every evening the sun puts on a show and acts a fool for God. Let’s do the same!

HALLELUJAH!

(Poinsettia’s Praising at Opryland Hotel ,12/16)

by Tammy Phillips
December 19, 2020

Praise ye the LORD.
Praise, O ye servants of the LORD
Praise the name of the LORD!

Psalms 113:1 (NKJV)

“Praise ye the Lord” in Hebrew is halal Yah, simply, praise God. Yah is the short name of YHVH, or Jehovah. The Hebrew word, halal, means  to be clear, to shine, to make a show, to boast, to celebrate, to glory. It means to act foolish, to feign madness. It means to act like a mad man.

When is the last time we acted like a fool for God?  We might do this cheering for our favorite baseball or football team.  We might even act mad over our child, a song or a  gift.  I wonder what people seated around us at church would do if we really celebrated God and acted like a fool?  What would my family say?  I wonder what my neighbor would think if I went mad in my cul-de-sac for Jesus?  Most importantly, what would be God’s reaction to our praise?!

This scripture exhorts us to praise God.  He is more than worthy of any words that ever leave our tongue.  Nevertheless, His praise should always be on our tongue. In fact, today, and everyday…

I enCOURAGE you to act a fool for God. Get your praise on! I t should not be that far of a stretch!  The word of God  says that the  birds do it and the flowers do it. Oh my! Even the rocks praise our God!  Don’t let them out do you.

JESUS, OUR DAYSPRING (pt 2)

by Tammy Phillips
December 18, 2020

Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; (79) To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Luke 1:78-79 NKJV)

Yesterday, Holy Spirit showed us that Jesus is our Dayspring who checks in on us to see how we are doing.  Why?  Part two of the verse explains:

“To give light to those who sit in darkness and the  shadow of death…”

Every day we begin our day in darkness, but the Light always shines forth to light our day.  In every situation, no matter how dark, no matter how hopeless, Jesus is our Dayspring. He brings light to all of darkness. In the shadow of death, he brings himself.

Jesus says in John 8:12:

“I am the Light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk-in darkness but shall have the light of life.”

He is our Dayspring, our Son rise. He is the Light of our life who freely gives us Himself. He erases the shadows of death and darkness with the hope of Himself, Light!

John says, “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. ” (1 John 1:5 KJV)

In the last part of this great word from Luke 1:79, the Word  states that he gives us light “to guide our feet into the way of peace.”  Guide is kateuthynō in Greek.  It means to make straight; direct to level; the removal of hindrances coming to one.   It is super challenging to walk in complete darkness.  Not only does God light the way, but he levels the playing field which allows an easier journey with much more peace.  He does not just light the way but brings peace to the darkness.

I enCOURAGE you to walk in the LIGHT of our DAYSPRING.

JESUS, OUR DAYSPRING (Pt 1)

by Tammy Phillips
December 17, 2020

The tender mercy of our God; whereby the Dayspring from on high hath visited us…Luke 1:78(KJV)

I was searching for Words of enCOURAGEment.  I was directed to Luke. I was instructed to read and that I would know when I found what I was looking for.

It is no wonder we love the sunrise so much.  Jesus is our sunrise.  He is our Dayspring!  Dayspring or anatolēin Greek, means rising light or dawn.

The Dayspring has visited us!

The word visited (episkeptomai) means to look upon or examine with the eyes in order to see how one is doing, in order to help.

Loosely translated the first part of this verse says to me:

Through the tender, kindness of God, from the bottom of his heart, He sent us the Sonrise, Jesus, just to put an eye on us and to see how we are doing!

I enCOURAGE you to bask in the glory of our Dayspring, our Sonrise, every morning when you see the sunrise. Even if you don’t get to see it, (like me today) it is still faithful to rise and greet us, just like him.  However, He is all the more faithful, our Dayspring.

DEEP WATERS

When you pass through the waters, I [will be] with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. (Isaiah 43:2 NKJV)

He has walked with me through deep, dark and scary waters. Although I have not walked your walk, there have been sometimes when I was sinking and saw no way out. He has always been there.  He has been, is and will always be the only way out.

I know you have your own struggles.  I know you have, are or will pass through the deep waters.  He is with you.  When you feel like you are drowning, yell out for him.  Yell at Him if you need too.  He can take it. He wants to take it.  He is your Rescuer and Deliver.  Seek Him.  He is in you.  He is beside you.  He holds your hand and he lifts you up. He will not let you go.

I enCOURAGE you to hang on.  Hang on to his every word.  Grab hold of Him and He will lift you up from the deep waters and place you on solid ground.
