Be Thankful. Pray Without Ceasing: Couldn’t pray an hour? How about a minute?

“Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17–18 KJV)

Raise your hand if you try to solve every problem in your own strength. I see you because I’m talking about me too.

How often do we forget, as Christians, that we have access to the wisdom, knowledge, and limitless resources of the Kingdom of God? The Creator of the universe is not distant; He is available, generous, and always on our side.

 God’s Word reminds us:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting…”James 1:5–6 (NKJV)

Recently, a winter storm hit our area. Thanks be to God; we experienced no power outage or damage. Others were not as fortunate. My son, daughter-in-law, and baby granddaughter lost power.

My first response? Pray.

Okay! God of restoration! Calling on you to restore the kids power! And in advance asking no power out for BMCJH nor us or Granny…Dad…Mom. Please and thanks!!!”

Then I texted my prayer-warriors:

“PRAYING FOR RESTORATION FOR ALL! RESTORATION! RESTORATION! RESTORATION!”

All glory to God, alone! Their power was RESTORED within thirty minutes.

I do not pretend to understand why my prayer was answered so quickly while others remained without power. I prayed restoration for all. Was it because I believed God is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do? I do not know, nor do I have to understand.  What I do know is this: He is faithful, and He answers when I call.

Pray without ceasing. Isn’t that exactly what Jesus did?

In His most distressing moments, as He faced the cross, Jesus went to the garden to pray. He asked His three closest friends to watch with Him. Then He went to pray alone and three times He returned and found them sleeping. He asked Peter, “Couldn’t you stay awake one hour? Stay awake and pray so that you won’t enter into temptation.” (Mark 14:37–38)

Lately, I’ve felt the Lord asking me the same question. Can you not give Me an hour?

Even more humbling, I was challenged and committed to pray one minute a day at 9:00 p.m. for our nation. I set an alarm so I wouldn’t forget. On the third night… I slept through my alarm.  I couldn’t believe it. Surely, I could give the Lord one minute, but like Peter, I failed.  But God is full of forgiveness, grace, and mercy. That night, I prayed at 9:30 instead and He met me there.

As followers of Christ and children of God, we have 24/7 access to the wisest, richest, most powerful, influential, creative, problem-solving Being in the universe. Everything is under His authority. He has answers for our every need, care, and concern.

I encourage you to  call on Him. He will answer. (Jeremiah 33:3)

And if you don’t yet know Him, invite Jesus into your life. He is King, Savior, Healer, Restorer, Almighty and so much more. I promise, He is someone you want to know.

So…Can you give Him a minute? A minute to win it.
